Amy Mazur: Lead Career Counselor
Amy Mazur is a National Certified Career Counselor, a Master Career Development Professional, and a Distance Credentialed Counselor based out of Newton. She is committed to helping individuals find their vocational path by tapping into their strengths and passions. Amy strives to create a trusting atmosphere for the client that, in turn, allows for self-acceptance and self-exploration. In addition to meeting individually with clients, Amy facilitates Job Search Strategy and Career Decision-Making Groups.
Amy earned a Masters of Education with a concentration in Counseling & Consulting Pyschology from Harvard University and a BA from the University of Michigan. She is a member the National Career Development Association and the Career Counselors' Consortium.
In her free time, Amy has been known to dance with professional dancers, act as an extra alongside Henry Winkler, and get arrested in support of Boston hotel workers.
Amy Parzych: Career Navigator
Amy Parzych is a Career Navigator assisting eligible Boston residents and dislocated workers in their pursuit of vocational training to achieve their career potential. She came to CareerSolution after several years as a professional recruiter. She has a Master’s in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling from Boston University and has worked with people from all walks of life to help them achieve their career objectives. When she is not helping people in the pursuit of their career goals, she enjoys a variety of recreational pursuits including mycology, swimming, and knitting.
Ana Montero: Career Navigator
Ana Montero joined JVS CareerSolution as a Career Navigator in October 2016. She is committed to providing caring and structured support to individuals in search of new employment and training opportunities. Ana supports job seekers in developing their basic computer skills, resumes, job search strategies and career development plans. Ana earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business with a concentration in Computer Science from Charter Oak State College in New Britain, Conn. She is a member of the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals and a Certified Professional Resume Writer. When not helping individuals to fulfill their goals, Ana loves dancing, cooking, eating and kickboxing, among other activities.
Anastazyia Vareschi: Health Care Career Navigator
Anastazyia Vareschi is a Career Navigator in the Healthcare Initiative who helps jobseekers access opportunities for employment, career advancement and skills upgrades with a particular focus on the healthcare industry. She also facilitates workshops designed to help clients succeed in their job search. With 3 years’ experience in the field and an enthusiasm for the career development puzzle, Anastazyia strives to create a comfortable and productive atmosphere where clients of all experience levels can map and navigate their path to career success.
Anastazyia earned a B.A. degree from Brandeis University and participated as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Cameroon. She also enjoys distance running and the Celtics.
Bellie Hacker: Program Associate
Bellie Hacker is a Program Associate extraordinaire who make no mistake is really in charge of operations at CareerSolution. When not chasing down colleagues, she designs CareerSolution marketing materials, photographs CareerSolution events, and delivers high-quality customer service. Previously, Bellie has worked as a graphic designer and corporate trainer and is an experienced public speaker. In her spare time, Bellie writes poetry, takes photos of beauty around her, makes short films, and bakes.
Beth Squires: Career Navigator
Beth Squires is a Career Navigator, who helps long-term un- and underemployed professionals in the Metrowest region re-enter the workforce. She is a job developer, networker, Certified Professional Resume Writer, soon-to-be Certified Professional Career Coach, and job readiness trainer all rolled up into one. She is known for her tenacity and getting results.
Beth has a B.S. in Nutrition from Texas Christian University and an MBA from Bentley University. She has had numerous jobs in a variety of industries over her career, but still aspires to more.
Beth approaches her work with an honest, no-nonsense attitude. She believes that a successful job search is not rocket science, but it is a lot of work.
Christine Armstrong: Career Navigator
Christine joined CareerSolution as a Career Navigator in March 2016. Her focus is on empowering low-income Boston residents and dislocated workers to pursue training and acquire the necessary skills to succeed in today’s job market. She thrives on serving diverse and underserved populations through collaboration, community engagement and workforce development. Known for her creativity and dedication, Christine brings more than eight years’ experience working for non-profit organizations. She worked primarily in youth development and directed programming throughout greater Boston.
Christine earned her B.A. in Community Planning from the University of Massachusetts at Boston. When not working, she enjoys living in a vibrant community, volunteering as a tax preparer, playing the saxophone, and exploring the arts.
Carolyn Shoemaker: Career Navigator
Carolyn is a Career Navigator who assists jobseekers with their job search process. She has more than five years experience in Career Centers in the Metro Boston area, as well as in outplacement services, as a Workshop Facilitator and Career Advisor. She is a Certified Professional Resume Writer. Prior to her work in career services, Carolyn has worked as a trainer, a group facilitator and as a business consultant to a wide array of businesses and non profit organizations. She has a Bachelor Degree from Allegheny College and a Master of Health Services Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. Outside of work Carolyn is a voracious reader of fiction (and the news). In addition, she is a serious Red Sox fan.
Charles Hickey: Director of Operations
Charlie joined JVS CareerSolution as director of operations in July 2015. He came to the agency with more than a decade of experience as a manager and consultant in the field of workforce development. Prior to that, Charlie worked in the newspaper industry as a reporter, editor and executive. He also taught Journalism as an adjunct professor at Stonehill College. Charlie received a BA in Philosophy from Boston College. In his spare time, Charles enjoys cooking and baking.
Doreen Treacy: VP of Career Services
Doreen joined JVS as VP of Career Services in November 2014. She is responsible for setting a vision and leading CareerSolution, ensuring high-quality customer services to job seekers and cutting-edge workforce development practices to Boston area employers. Thankfully she has a talented and dedicated team of professionals to deliver on this big endeavor.
A recognized social innovator and thought leader, she brings over 20 years of professional experience and a passion for creating economic pathways for Massachusetts' residents to her role at CareerSolution. She is convinced that creating collaborative partnerships is the only way to turn safety nets into trampolines. She holds a BA from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and a Masters of Divinity from Boston University.
When not in the office, Doreen's preferred place to be is somewhere outdoors, preferably getting dirty. Alternately, she finds a yoga mat to be an inviting place to hang out.
Evan Foley: Business Services Manager
Evan joined JVS CareerSolution as Business Services Manager in March 2016. He enjoys engaging with Boston-area employers across a wide spectrum of industries, and identifying new opportunities for the Career Center’s job seekers. Whether organizing recruitment events and job fairs or assessing a business, Evan is always looking for just the right fit that matches an employer’s needs with a job seeker’s skills.
Evan has a background in project management, vendor relations, and quality management in the biotech industry. This is his second stint at JVS, having taught a job training class for several cycles in 2009. Evan received a bachelor's degree in Anthropology from Drew University in Madison, N.J. In his spare time, he enjoys attending concerts, museums, and hockey games, going on long runs through the city, frequenting Revolutionary War sites, and watching old episodes of “Columbo.”
Hal Surgecoff: Career Navigator
Hal Surgecoff is a Career Center Support Specialist who excels at creating a positive customer experience whether at the Welcome Center where he serves as customers' first point of contact with CareerSolution, or in the resource center, where he helps customers with the job search. He also leads Welcome Sessions for new members.
Hal has worked at Career Centers in Boston for over 10 years. He holds an Associate Degree in Science from Bunker Hill Community College and a certificate in Microsoft Office Skills Training Program from Operation A.B.L.E. Hal is a USAF Veteran and served in the Mass. Army National Guard, receiving Honorable Discharges from both.
On weekends, he enjoys photography and playing in a band.
Jason Pollens: Economic Opportunity Initiatives Manager
As the Economic Opportunity Initiatives Manager, Jason is the de facto financial guru for JVS customers whose sole focus is to create long term economic success for customers and clients. He oversees JVS' free tax preparation, financial empowerment workshops, and works with staff to deploy a financial coaching framework that empowers individuals' to achieve their financial dreams.
Jason earned a dual Masters in Coexistence and Conflict and Sustainable International Development at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. He has worked in the Balkans, Honduras, Namibia, South Africa, Kenya, and Israel
When not helping individuals chart positive financial futures, Jason enjoys hiking through sand dunes along the coast of Massachusetts.
Jody Lo-Vierra: Unemployment Insurance Representative
Jody Lo-Vierra is a Massachusetts Unemployment Insurance Representative serving at JVS CareerSolution. Since 2009, she has helped individuals file for and receive unemployment benefits. She has special expertise in working with customers using her tri-lingual skills in English, Cantonese and Mandarin
She migrated from Hong Kong in 2003 with a background in customer service. In 2008, Jody completed Accounting, Computer and English training at the Asian American Civic Association and then went to work as a Patient Services Coordinator at Tufts Medical Center, Boston.
Johnny Kevin Pham: Unemployment Insurance Representative
Johnny Kevin Pham is a Massachusetts Unemployment Insurance Representative serving at JVS CareerSolution. He brings over 19 years of experience serving customers with unemployment insurance claims.
He earned a B.S. Degree in International Management from University of Massachusetts and is currently attending Suffolk University's Masters in Public Administration program. Before emigrating to the U.S. from Vietnam, Johnny Kevin worked in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam with refugees, orphans, and in community development. He has received numerous awards for these services, including the "Honorable Recognition of Humanity" award from the local Vietnamese government. Johnny Kevin is fluent in Vietnamese.
In his spare time, Johnny Kevin works as a counselor for the Boston Public Health Commission assisting homeless individuals.
Judy Bottkol: Career Navigator
Judy Bottkol is a Career Navigator who helps job seekers create a job search plan, write a market-ready resume, and prepare for interviews. Judy does one-on-one coaching and workshop facilitation and development. She also plans and manages the CareerSolution Job LINKS program for the long-term unemployed.
Judy has over 25 years' experience in HR with Fortune 500 companies in the consumer products, hospitality, and financial services industries and brings her insider knowledge to her clients every day. Judy earned a B.A. from Boston College in Business Administration.
In her spare time, Judy practices yoga with her cat, Mookie, who has mastered all the yoga moves except for downward dog.
Judy Sacks: Director, Professional and Jewish Community Services
Judy Sacks is the Director of Professional Services. She manages the team that provides career-related services and programs for professional-level job seekers and career changers. In her years at JVS, Judy has developed many community partnerships and has received awards for her contributions to the Jewish communal and refugee resettlement fields, including the International Association of JVS' Program Award for her team's quick recession response program in partnership with Combined Jewish Philanthropies.
Judy serves on the professional development committee of IAJVS, a board member of Temple Aliyah in Needham, and she is an active member of the CJP's Boston-Haifa Connection, where she works on the employment subcommittee of the Ethiopian Jewry Committee. She has a BA from Boston University and is a licensed social worker.
When not working, Judy tends to her special garden of jewels (aka grandchildren); a boy/girl twin pair and their younger brother.
Kevin Beltrami: Career Navigator
Kevin Beltrami is a career center legend who specializes in working with ex-offenders and the homeless populations. He helps individuals find transitional employment, permanent employment, training, and educational opportunities through workshops and one-on-one coaching.
Kevin has been awarded the Boston Private Industry Council Achiever Award and the JVS All-Star Award twice. He has collaborated with SPAN, Pine Street Inn/Impact, Community Works Services, and Project Place to ensure his clients get what they need to succeed.
Kevin loves amusement parks, especially roller coasters.
Louis Kaplan: Financial Empowerment Coach
Louis Kaplan is a Financial Empowerment Coach and joined JVS in November 2016. Louis works with clients to improve the financial situations of his clients by increasing their awareness and access to options and resources and helping them design a roadmap to attain their goals. Previous to joining JVS Louis spent 4 years working with low-income seniors as a Nutrition Educator/Outreach Specialist with a Boston area social service organization. Louis made a career change into social services after spending 17 years in the advertising industry. Louis speaks English, Spanish, and French and has experience conducting business in Central and South America. He holds a B.A. from Brandeis University in Latin American Studies. Amongst other activities in his leisure time, Louis is an avid follower of the triumphs and tribulations of the Boston Red Sox.
Martha Plotkin: Career Counselor
Martha is our Boston-based career counselor. A career changer herself, Martha guides professionals through career decision-making, including career changes, finding new meaning in one's current career, and exploring options for retirement. She also facilitates our Job Search Strategy Group, and offers several job search workshops.
Martha holds an M.B.A from Simmons College and an M.Ed. from UMASS Amherst. Prior to career counseling, Martha worked in nonprofit and small business management, and arts and civic event promotion. She is a member of the National Career Development Association and volunteers with the Institute for Career Transitions (ICT.org).
Martha is co-founder and treasurer of the Quincy Climate Action Network (QCAN), and enjoys spending long hours on her bread-baking projects.
Rob Sherman: Career Navigator
Robert Sherman, known as Rob, joined JVS CareerSolution in January 2017. He brings a diverse set of skills and experiences to his role as a Career Navigator, including more than fifteen years in high-tech as a quality engineer, project and program manager, and Agile software methods coach, as well as a coordinator for Music and Theatre Co-op at Northeastern University, where he also taught acting and general theatre courses. Among other roles, Rob has also been a customer service specialist at companies such Kinko’s, Apple, and Best Buy. He is intimately familiar with the CareerSolution Resource Center as a former customer. He enjoys helping job seekers unlock their potential through skills assessments, inventories, and one-on-one coaching, then tailoring their job searches based on their unique profile. Rob holds a Doctorate in Drama from Tufts University, as well as Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Theatre from the College of William and Mary and Ohio State University. He is an avid cook, book reader, and movie watcher/collector, and enjoys exploring Boston’s food scene and hiking local trails.
Ruta Gutmand: Data Program Administrator
Ruta is the Data Program Administrator for CareerSolution. She works with multiple databases and uses crystal reports and other tools to develop and produce standard and customized reports to support all career center programs. Without her, the CareerSolution team would never know if they were having the impact they desire. She was previously a Program Assistant and Workforce Investment Act Career Counselor in the career services field.
Ruta is originally from Lithuania, where she earned her B.A. and worked in laser technology. She also has her Masters in Management from Cambridge College. Ruta is fluent in English, Lithuanian and Russian.
During her free time, Ruta enjoys spending time with her family, dancing with her "Saburis" group, and volunteering on the parents' committee at Boston Lithuanian School in Milton, MA.
Shiu Yip Cheung: Career Navigator
Shiu Yip Cheung is a Career Navigator with more than 10 years' experience working in employment training services. He thrives on helping eligible low-income Boston residents or dislocated workers access the training they need to get back to work on satisfying career paths. He has experience working with culturally, economically and racially diverse clients.
Previously, Shiu Yip worked in High School Management and as Principal of a college in Hong Cong. Shiu Yip earned a BA in History & Political Science and a Certificate in Education in Teaching & School Management from the University of Hong Kong which is equivalent to a M. Ed. in the US. Shiu Yip was awarded JVS Super Star in 2013 in recognition of his performance. He speaks English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
He loves Yoga and takes classes on a regular basis in his free time.
Susan Buckey: Director of Healthcare Initiative
Susan Buckey joined JVS as the Director of Healthcare Initiative in September 2014. She meets with healthcare employers to understand the nuances of their staffing needs, educates job seekers about opportunities in healthcare and helps them market themselves effectively so that they land jobs in that industry.
Prior to joining JVS, Susan inspired and educated audiences of all ages. She helped Boston area residents find pathways into the life science industry via training and networking events, led national outreach campaigns for PBS television programs produced by WGBH/Boston and taught fourth grade. Her focus for much of that time was to spark people's curiosity - particularly towards careers in science and engineering. In 2014, Susan was selected to participate in the Aspen Institute's Sector Skills Academy, a professional development series for workforce professionals focusing on increasing opportunities in a particular sector or industry.
In her free time, Susan tries to be outside as much as the elements allow - she loves gardening, hiking, and cross-country skiing.
Vincent Yee: Career Navigator
Vincent brings over 20 years' experience to his role as a Career Navigator at CareerSolution. His specialty is assisting customers in need of training to reach their career goals. He offers career counseling and advice in four languages (Mandarin, Cantonese and Vietnamese and English) making him an indispensable member of the CareerSolution team. He is known for his customer service and for his desire to consistently improve as well as his ability to ferret out alternative ways in which to cater to his client's needs.
Vincent was educated at the University of Saigon, the Northeastern Institute of Industrial Technology where he secured a certificate of electronic technology, and is a certified medical interpreter and member of Massachusetts Medical Interpreter Association.
Wendy Gelberg: Career Navigator
Wendy Gelberg is a Career Navigator who provides one-on-one coaching, writes resumes, and facilitates job search workshops to help job seekers find the shortest distance between now and their next job. She has worked with clients between the ages of 16 and 83 (and, yes, the 83-year-old landed a job!) in a wide range of occupations and industries. She has a particular interest in job search skills for introverts and authored the book, The Successful Introvert: How to Enhance Your Job Search and Advance Your Career. Wendy earned a Certificate of Advanced Study (C.A.S.) from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education, a Master’s Degree in Education from Boston University, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rochester. In addition, she is a Certified Professional Resume Writer, Certified Employment Interview Professional, MBTI® Certified Facilitator, and Certified International Job and Career Transition Coach.
When not working, Wendy can be found on the tennis court or, in more sedentary moments, doing jigsaw puzzles or – the ultimate puzzle – piecing together her family genealogy.
Yi YI Lu: Adult Basic Education Navigator
Yi Yi Lu is the Adult Basic Education Navigator at JVS CareerSolution. She helps clients access adult basic education resources, including English for Speakers of Other Languages, adult basic education, and/or high school equivalency programs. She enjoys connecting people with services that will help transform their lives and move them along the path to economic self-sufficiency. Before becoming the ABE Navigator, Yi Yi recruited for ESOL and job training programs. She also has experience working with patients in a clinical setting. Yi Yi received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Smith College. In her free time, she enjoys creative pursuits, including writing, video production, and graphic design.
Zijada Malicbegovic: Administrative Assistant
Zijada Malicbegovic is a Program Assistant at CareerSolution, where she impresses customers with her extensive knowledge of programs and services at JVS and helps connect them to the services they need.
Previously, Zijada was an employment specialist and job developer for Bosnian refugees. She is bilingual in Bosnian and English and serves on the Board of New England Friends of Bosnia. Zijada was awarded the JVS Superstar Award.
Zijada loves gardening, music, dancing, walking and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
